ABOUT MARTHA SEIF SIMPSON

  • I write picture books and early chapter books. My first picture book, What Not to Give Your Mom on Mother’s Day, was published by Two Lions in 2013. Wisdom Tales published The Dreidel That Wouldn’t Spin: A Toyshop Tale of Hanukkah in 2014 and Esther’s Gragger: A Toyshop Tale of Purim in 2019. I am a member of the Author’s Guild as well as SCBWI. Both of my Toyshop Tales books have won awards.

Before my children’s books, I wrote five professional resource books for librarians and teachers, all published by McFarland & Company, and did some freelance editing for Kehot publishers. I review children’s and young adult books for School Library Journal and have served as a judge for the IBPA Benjamin Franklin Awards. Currently, I’m serving on the Sydney Taylor Book Award Committee.

For the past 27 years, I have been the Head of Children’s Services at the Stratford Library in Stratford, CT. The best part about my job is seeing all the new books and sharing them with kids. It’s also fun to do programs based on my favorite books. I love to promote my books at conferences, libraries, schools and community centers.

My website is www.Martha-Seif-Simpson.com and I’m on Twitter @MarthaSimpMLS. I have a Facebook page, too. Find me at Martha Kidlit Author and send me a message saying you found me on the SCBWI website!
