ABOUT MARY WADE
Born in Arkansas, I moved to Houston, Texas, with my husband in 1977. I hold a BA degree (English major and minors in History and Education) as well as MA in Library Science. I had 3 books in print when I retired after 25 years as an elementary librarian. I have been an active member of SCBWI since 1987 and just kept writing. Much of my work is nonfiction, mostly biographies, many of them about early Texas individuals, published by various Texas publishers.Other biographies, including books on C.S. Lewis and Joan Lowery Nixon plus a 6-book series for beginning readers on famous Americans, were published by Enslow. They also published a book on ALS and a 6-book series on plants for beginning readers. Other publishers included Millbrook,Scholastic and Capstone. My newest book is AMAZING TEXAS GIRLS, about 12 Texas women whose childhood was in Texas, some well-known, others not (Rowman&Littlefield, 2018). The nearest thing I have to a picture book is NO YEAR OF THE CAT, a Chinese folktale explaining why there is no cat in the Chinese zodiac (Sleeping Bear Press, 2013). Writing is both a passion and an addition for me.
