ABOUT NATASHA YIM

  • I was born in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and grew up in Singapore and Hong Kong. In 1979, I came to California and attended Dominican College (now University) in San Rafael, California, where I received my B.A. in English LIterature with a Writing Emphasis in 1983, and a M.S. in Counseling Psychology in 1986.

    I have worked for most of my professional career as a counselor/social worker with kids in group homes, foster homes, residential treatment centers, and for the Mendocino County Child Protective Services.

    I began writing when I was 11 years old, and have had non-fiction articles published in regional and local magazines and newspapers such as Vibrant Life magazine, Asia Pacific magazine, UnchARTed magazine, the Ukiah Daily Journal, and the Valley Sun.

    My first picture book “Otto’s Rainy Day” was published in 2000 by Charlesbridge Publishing, and a picture book biography of the last empress of China, “Cixi, The Dragon Empress” was released in October 2011 by Goosebottom Books. Another picture book biography, “Sacajawea of the Shoshone” was published by Goosebottom Books in Oct 2012. On Jan.7, 2014, Charlesbridge Publishing released my picture book “Goldy Luck and the Three Pandas”. I have also written for the children’s magazines, Highlights for Children, Appleseed and Faces. I am currently working on a Young Adult historical fiction novel, and two picture book manuscripts.
