ABOUT REBECCA DOTLICH

  • Rebecca Kai Dotlich is a word collector, poet and picture book author who grew up in Indiana, spending her days ice skating, exploring trails by the creek, and reading comic books & mysteries. Her work has been featured on Reading Rainbow and has appeared in hundreds of magazines, textbooks and anthologies as well as her own collections.  Her books have been awarded a Boston Globe Horn Book Honor, a Golden Kite picture book Honor, a Bank Street Best Book of the Year, 10 Best Books for Babies, Indiana Best Read Aloud, an IRA Children’s Choice and a Gold Oppenheim Toy Portfolio Award and a Subaru SB&F Prize finalist. The Knowing Book has been heralded as the newest alternative graduation gift to the successful Oh, The Places You’ll Go by both reviewers and independent bookstore owners. She has visited hundreds of classrooms across the country, speaks frequently at conferences, and teaches poetry workshops to writers, teachers and students. She has been a contributing columnist and poetry advisor to Creative Classroom magazine and Teaching K-8 and has served on the NCTE Award for Excellence in Poetry Committee, the Lee Bennett Hopkins Poetry Award through Penn State and The International Reading Association’s Committee on Poetry & Prose Awards. She was most recently appointed to the SCBWI advisory team for Indiana.
