ABOUT RUCHI SINGH
I am an illustrator. I write stories as well. Presently, I have finished my Bachelor’s degree in design, specializing in Communication Design from MRID, Faculty of Fine Arts, MSU Baroda. During my under graduation, I have interned with Karadi Tales (Chennai) and Vaw World Animation Studio (Bhopal). I am the illustrator of children’s book ‘Something’s Falling’, to be published soon. As personal projects, I have written and illustrated around 5 short stories till now. freelancing with clients including worldwide organization Barefoot College, Vaw World Animation Studio, and Bookosmia.
My art is my best friend. For me, the best way to meet my best friend is through traditional media. When I illustrate traditionally, I feel closer to my art. The sound of pencil running on paper, mixing two colors to make them one, absorption of ink on paper, tactile paint on canvas, ending of a stroke when a pen leaves the surface, all these experiences are incredible.
Growing up in a small town which had much flora and fauna, and in a house, which had a nice garden, was a blessing. Nature drew me towards the arts. It inspired me and it still does. It never ceases to surprise me with its beautiful creations, which encourages me to make my own beautiful creations. Thus, I write my own stories and I illustrate them.
My illustrations complement the writing, they add to the writing, enhancing its impact. And I make sure every element of the composition has a reason, a story to tell. The detail should make the viewer’s eyes run curiously all over the composition. I get inspired from folk arts and crafts. Lines and patterns always rule in my illustrations. I like to experiment with ways of storytelling. I see a story in everything. I think of various possibilities in which a composition can tell a story. I keep drawing until I am satisfied with my artwork.
I admire the accomplishments of technology. I praise the fruit of ‘digital illustration’ given by
technology to us. I enjoy doing digital illustrations too. Handmade illustrations take time. But they offer beauty and happiness. Through my art, I want to encourage people towards positivity. I want to inspire people to see, save, and love the true beauty and soul of everything around them.
