ARTIST STATEMENT

  • Writing helps me make sense of the world.  I need to do it, even if it’s hard.  When I was a young child, I couldn’t wait to learn to read.  It seemed like I had to wait forever before someone unlocked that golden door and allowed me into the world of books.  I read voraciously as a child.  And I dreamed of one day creating stories the way the authors whose books I read had done.  Creating stories was magic as far as I was concerned and I wanted a piece of that magical world.  I still reach for that world every day when I sit down with a pen or my computer.  And I love sharing that world with students when I visit schools, either in person or virtually through a Skype visit.
