ABOUT SUSAN HOOD

  • SUSAN HOOD is the author of more than 200 children’s books. In 2018, Susan published her her debut middle grade novel Lifeboat 12 (Simon and Schuster); and Shaking Things Up: 14 Young Women Who Changed the World, illustrated by 13 Extraordinary Women Artists (HarperCollins). Previous titles include Ada’s Violin: The Story of the Recycled Orchestra, illustrated by Sally Wern Comport (Simon and Schuster); Double Take, illustrated by Jay Fleck (Candlewick); Spike, the Mixed-up Monster, illustrated by Caldecott Honoree Melissa Sweet (Simon and Schuster); Rooting for You and Leaps and Bounce, both illustrated by Caldecott Medalist Matthew Cordell (Disney Hyperion); The Tooth Mouse, illustrated by Janice Nadeau (Kids Can Press) and Mission: Back to School, illustrated by Mary Lundquist (Random House) among many others. 

    In addition to writing for children, Susan has been an editor at Nick Jr., Scholastic and Sesame Street. She has written for parents and early childhood educators in the New York Times, Nickelodeon’s ParentsConnect, Sesame Street Parent’s Guide, Working Mother and more. She lives with her family in Connecticut and enjoys spending the summer sailing with her husband along the New England coast.
       
    Next up? Susan is excited to be collaborating with Thai journalist Pathana Sornhiran and illustrator Dow Phumiruk on Titan and the Wild Boars: The True Cave Rescue of the Thai Soccer Team (HarperCollins). In bookstores May 7, 2019!
