ABOUT SUZANNE KAMATA

  • American Suzanne Kamata has lived in Japan since 1987. Her short stories for children and young adults have appeared in Ladybug, Cicada, Skipping Stones, Hunger Mountain, Sucker Literary and the anthologies Summer Shorts (Blooming Tree Press)and Tomo: Friendship Through Fiction – An Anthology of Japan Teen Stories (Stone Bridge Press). Her novella “Pilgrimage” was awarded the 2009 SCBWI Magazine Merit Award for fiction. Her YA novel HOME BASE was awarded an Honorable Mention in the 2012 Leapfrog Fiction Contest, children’s division. Her debut YA novel, GADGET GIRL, was published by GemmaMedia in 2013 and was named an APALA YA Honor book, a Skipping Stones Honor Book, and a Book of Outstanding Merit by Bankstreet College. She was awarded an SCBWI Multicultural Work-in-Progress grant for INDIGO GIRL, and her novel SCREAMING DIVAS was named to the ALA Rainbow List. Her novel THE MERMAIDS OF LAKE MICHIGAN (Wyatt-Mackenzie Publishing, 2017) was a finalist for the Helen Sheehan YA Book Prize.
