Street magic performer. Hog-calling champion. Award-winning ice sculptor. These are all things Tara Lazar has never been. Instead, she writes quirky, humorous picture books featuring exciting places that everyone will want to visit.
Tara’s most recent book 7 ATE 9: THE UNTOLD STORY was honored with the 2018 Irma S. & James H. Black Award from Bank Street College of Education, as chosen by thousands of children across the US. 7 ATE 9 also won The 2018 Crystal Kite from SCBWI (Atlantic Region).
Her other titles include THE MONSTORE (2013), I THOUGHT THIS WAS A BEAR BOOK (2015), LITTLE RED GLIDING HOOD (2015), NORMAL NORMAN (2016), and WAY PAST BEDTIME (2017). Many more will be released in the coming years, including THE UPPER CASE: TROUBLE IN CAPITAL CITY, the sequel to 7 ATE 9.
Tara is the founder of Storystorm, (formerly Picture Book Idea Month/ PiBoIdMo), the picture book writer’s alternative to NaNoWriMo. Storystorm is held every January at her blog, taralazar.com. She also serves as Co-Chair for the Rutgers University Council on Children’s Literature “One-on-One Plus” conference.
Tara is represented by Ammi-Joan Paquette of the Erin Murphy Literary Agency. She lives in New Jersey with her husband, two daughters and a skateboarding hamster.
