ABOUT TATIANA TUCKER

  • Artist/hiker: This was always my answer when asked what I wanted to be when I grew up. My childhood was spent in a small Alaskan town where I embraced the dictates of the seasons by running wild through the woods all summer, and hibernating with great books all winter. My life has been defined by a strong love of nature and art. I followed these passions with dual studies of biology and oil painting at Amherst College. After living in Massachusetts and the District of Columbia, my partner and I found our forever home in Seattle. When we had our first child in 2018, I took the plunge of leaving my day job to pursue my passions for art and writing. The overwhelming love for our son inspired me to write my first book, a love letter to him and the beauty of the natural world around us. I look forward to continue to grow as an author/illustrator and citizen of the world.

ARTIST STATEMENT

  • My illustrations are rooted in vibrant colors and the flow of energy through our visual environment. I paint saturated landscapes full of whimsy and light. I appreciate kinetic movements and bright joyful scenes in my oil paintings.

I write with lyric prose celebrating the beauty of language at an accessible level. I am currently focused on books for the parents of newborns; manuscripts with rhythmic  phrasing that comfort both the parent and fussy baby. I hope to explore middle grade fiction next with portal books based on folklore.
