PAL stands for “Published and Listed.“ Books are considered PAL when they are published by traditional publishing houses that do not charge money to author or illustrators. Only PAL books are eligible for the Crystal Kite and Golden Kite Awards and may be sold at SCBWI events. All published children’s books (both PAL and non-PAL) are eligible for the Book Launch Grant, Online Book Launch Parties, and can be sold in the SCBWI Online Bookstore.
Only books for children published by a PAL publisher qualify for PAL status.

If your publishing house is not on the PAL publishers list but fits the criteria listed on this page, you may use the form below to submit a PAL Inquiry. Once you have submitted the PAL Inquiry form, the SCBWI PAL Inquiry committee will verify your publisher for possible inclusion in our market surveys.
A PAL review may take up to 45 business days. If you have not received a response after 45 business days, please contact us.
There is no guarantee that any publisher will be granted PAL status, and publishers that no longer meet the requirements may be removed from PAL status.
