SCBWI Announces Emerging Voices Winners

Congratulations to Lily Quan and Ines Bellina, the winners of the 2021 SCBWI Emerging Voices Award.

Ines Bellina won for JESSIE CRISTO, SUPERSTAR, a funny and empowering YA contemporary novel about a Catholic School girl who pushes boundaries when she is cast as Jesus in her school production of Jesus Christ Superstar.

Lily Quan won for THE ONE AND ONLY ROSIE CHEN, an upper middle grade novel which she describes as “Kim’s Convenience meets My So-Called Life”. Set in the 1980s, it follows thirteen-year-old Rosie as she struggles to balance her radio dreams with supporting her family after her mother is diagnosed with cancer.

The winning manuscripts will be made available to select agents and editors via a secure website. Bellina and Quan will each receive $1,000, as well as free tuition to the Big Five-Oh Summer Conference and a special manuscript consultation with an agent or editor.

The Emerging Voices Award is made possible through the generosity of Sue and Martin Schmitt of the 455 Foundation.
