On January 22, the SCBWI website re-launched with a brand new homepage and streamlined navigation system. In preparation for the redesign, SCBWI interviewed active and longtime members about their experience using the site in order to create a design that is clean and intuitive, prioritizing the things that our members care about most. The bold new look of the homepage was art directed by Director of Illustration Programs Sarah Baker, who worked with a small team of web designers to create a design she describes as “dynamic, exciting, and energetic.”
This ethos went into the selection of everything from the typeface, a sans serif called Rubik, to the lime green of the logo, which Baker chose because “we wanted to use green to maintain recognition of the old site but make everything look fresher and more modern.” Six months of planning went into the structure of the website, which we hope will help our members—both old and new—find what they need as quickly and easily as possible.
This design will also help SCBWI add new features, such as the affinity groups which are scheduled to debut later this year. Keep an eye out for information about feature projects, and in the meantime enjoy the new website at scbwi.org.
