The story was inspired by my Dad and the real Bruno Bright; a boisterous goof ball of unknown heritage who wandered into our home many years ago. I think it is wonderful that they can both live on through my book.

I am an Australian author, teacher and animal fanatic. My junior novel, D.O.G. was followed by Dog Logic: a pooch’s guide to dogs behaving badly, a quirky ‘manual’ from a dog’s perspective, co-pawthored by Socks, the Philosophical Pooch. Picture books Going Fishing & Going Camping, are upbeat tales that celebrate family adventures in the great outdoors. Midget Bones’ Diary is the memoir of a very special mongrel, ‘written’ by my other clever canine companion Snowy, a.k.a.‘The Bones’. Canine related and narrated, Midget Bones’ Diary is witty, winsome and just a wee bit wicked. In 2017, My Dog Socks was released. A heart-warming picture book exploring friendship, loyalty and belonging, My Dog Socks was unashamedly inspired by my own adored dog. My Dog Socks is a 2018 Children’s Book Council of Australia (CBCA) Notable Book, was shortlisted in the 2018 Speech Pathology Book of the Year and is on the Premier’s Reading Challenge Book List in three Australian states. My recently released picture book, Bruno, the Boisterous Blue Dog from the Bush is an alliterative tale which celebrates mateship and introduces young readers to the quintessential language of the Australian bush. With five of my seven books featuring my furry, four legged friends, I can happily call myself ‘The Dog Author’.

I have won a number of writing awards and been published in national journals, newspapers, anthologies and magazines. A few years ago, I was one of eight participants chosen to attend the prestigious Allen & Unwin national mentorship in Brisbane.
