KATIE COMMA
B.B. Swann
Synopsis
When Katie Comma is blown out of her book, she must search the classroom for her home. As the students return to class, Katie dives into books to hide, landing at the end of sentences. The subjects are quick to tell her she doesn't belong, but Katie doesn't give up. Her story is not only a basic lesson on proper punctuation for the youngest students, it also demonstrates the importance of perseverance.

***MAKES A GREAT GIFT FOR TEACHERS!***

Most books about commas are too difficult for younger students and are usually geared toward older students who have more experience with writing. After teaching at-risk elementary students for over 25 years, I wrote Katie Comma with their needs in mind. Teachers can use this book as an introduction to one use of a comma--in a list--and the simple explanations for proper punctuation from beautifully illustrated characters are easy for children to understand.
