Recently, there has been a great deal of controversy about incidents of harassment that have occurred at SCBWI programs and events. It is of paramount importance to SCBWI that we maintain a welcoming and safe environment for all members of our community. We have a zero-tolerance policy regarding harassment, discrimination and intimidation of any kind. To underscore that commitment, we have revised our anti-harassment policy to now contain a complete definition of what constitutes harassment, a code of conduct for all our events, a detailed and entirely new reporting procedure, and a list of sanctions for offenders. All members and faculty attending our events will be required to acknowledge this policy and adhere to it. Of particular note is our newly established direct email for reporting harassment concerns (firstname.lastname@example.org), which allows you to file a complaint either personally or anonymously. We have also set up a panel composed of board members, staff members and members at large to investigate complaints and recommend appropriate action. This anti-harassment policy applies to national and international conferences, regional events, and to our online network.
We would like to take this opportunity to express deep regret that any harassment occurred within the SCBWI community. We hope that our newly crafted and detailed anti-harassment policies and procedures will ensure that SCBWI is a safe space for everyone. We care about you, our members, and put your emotional and physical safety and comfort as our highest priority.
