AIDAN CASSIE is the author-illustrator of Sterling, Best Dog Ever, Little Juniper Makes it Big and, The Word for Friend (FSG/Macmillan).

Aidan got her BFA while studying visual communication and animation at Emily Carr University of Art and Design, and later at the Edinburgh College of Art. She loved making her characters come alive in her animated film, SITTING NEXT TO BERNIE, but Aidan soon returned to her first love; writing and illustrating books for children (which require 5,368 less drawings than a 6 minute film).

Aidan lives on a small island in the Salish Sea with her wee family, and giant dog.

Presentation Description:

Aidan can’t wait to come visit your school! She’ll share with your students an interactive presentation on her process including:

  • Making and Editing Picture Books
  • Ideas for Coming up with... Ideas
  • Character Design
  • Her own struggle as a young reader/speller, and her path to storytelling
  • Q&A

Aidan brings many illustrator props including her books, character models, preliminary sketches, dummy books and printer proofs to use during a 45 minute Keynote presentation catered to grade.

Aidan lives in the Gulf Islands Bc Canada so most author visits require considerable travel time, including a ferry. Accordingly, she waives any standard travel fees for schools that are within an hour drive of the Sidney or Crofton BC Ferry terminals, when booking half or full day presentations.
