Bio:
I have been a freelance, non-fiction writer since 1997, when I moved to Urbana, IL, land of corn, soybeans and cows, and source of the mighty Kaskaskia River. Before that I worked for a decade in university public relations.
When I'm not gardening, sailing or reading, I write about interesting people doing unusual things. That list includes, so far, an astronaut, archaeologst, male midwife, Pulitzer-prize winning journalist, a rowing team, several novelists, including Judy Blume (eventually I'll manage to mention that without pausing for dramatic effect!), a photographer, an architect, countless scientists, and a woman who founded a summer camp to reunite siblings who have been separated within the foster system.
Presentation Description:
I can tell Rachel Alexandra's story in a lively and engaging way including video from a few of her famous races. I also have spoken more generally about how to write a biography, particularly of an animal rather than a person, as well as my career as an author.
