As a child, I loved reading. Books opened up new worlds and new adventures that fed my imagination. As a writer, I hope my books do the same for readers today. I've written biographies, history books, and science books on a variety of subjects. I've written novels and picture books. Every book poses new challenges for me as a researcher and writer. I love delving into the adventure.

Before becoming a full-time writer, I taught English and social studies to students in grades 7-12 and worked as a librarian in both elementary schools and colleges. I love to visit schools and meet with young readers and writers. When not writing, I enjoy biking, traveling to visit family in Vermont and South Carolina, and reading great books by my favorite authors. For more information, visit my website.

Presentation Description:
I offer several different programs with visuals and time for Q &A:

Dragons: Fact or Fiction - Grades K-2 (a 45 minute program exploring the different between fact and fiction)

Adventures in NonFiction - Grades 2-4 (a look at several of my nonfiction books and the research process that made them possible)

Life in Colonial America - Grades 3-6 (explores everyday life in America in the 1600s and 1700s.

Creating an Interactive Adventure - Grades 4-6 (a writing workshop in which students, working in groups, create their own interactive adventures using my You Choose books as a model).

I am also willing to customize a presentation to meet specific curriculum or topics.
