Hi, I'm Janet Oliver!
I've drawn since I was five years old. Mostly I drew horses, especially my grandparents' farm horse, a retired Tennessee Walker named Trixie. My grandfather used to say that he bought the farm so his grandchildren would know what life was like there and would love it as much as he did. It certainly worked for me.
My motto is "Better Late Than Never." I returned to school at the University of North Carolina Greensboro in 1995 as a non-traditional student. That meant I was way older than my fellow students.
I earned a B.F.A. in painting and printmaking in 2000, and an M.F.A. in 2002. I also taught introductory art history and drawing at UNCG for several years following graduation. I also taught art history and design at High Point University in 2014 and 2015.
Now I work full time in my Greensboro, NC studio, where I am illustrating a book which my son L.M. Oliver and I co-wrote. It's about two small dogs who live on a farm. Everything was super normal until the day the machines came ...
