Bio:
I am one of two Regional Advisors for the SCBWI-Oregon. I grew up in a family with 9 kids and (only) 1 T.V. So I guess it's no surprise that I spent all my days, and most of my nights, reading. I had so many "favorites", from L. Frank Baum to Stephen King. I guess you could call me a prolific reader.
Then when I got a little older, I decided to make my own stories . . . maybe to escape those 8 brothers and sisters (and grandma). She was the eagle-eye hovering over the nest while Mom was at work.
Today, I still love to read...and write...and knit, crochet, run, play tennis..oh sorry...I didn't mean to go on so long, but like I said, I love to write... (Rep'd by Terrie Wolf @ AKA Lit.)
Presentation Description:
I would love to interact with young readers by offering a short - simple - science experiment and a little reading, all while sharing my story of growing up in a family with nine kids. I will talk about why I still love to escape my chaotic world by reading...and writing. Plus, I will explain why I still love to create and make new things, even as an adult.
My latest book, Irma the Inventor and the Vampire Spiders, is a story filled with science, engineering and technology. It delves into the world of robotics in a fun and laughable way, which encourages kids (especially girls) to enter the S.T.E.M. fields. But truly at its core, this book is about bullying and friendship.
These area all topics my presentation will touch on and hopefully give the attendees a few tools to walk away with.
