I was a teacher and librarian for nearly twenty years, so I can present on almost any topic. I really love to work with writers (young writers and adults) and have presented workshops on character, generating ideas, and writing in the YA voice. I also love to talk about the importance of stories in our lives. Below please find descriptions of two of the workshops I've done, as well as a link to a TEDx Talk I did. I'm also happy to work up something new to meet your needs.
Getting To Know Your Imaginary Friends: Great fiction has great characters, but how well do you know the ones in your stories? This workshop will help writers learn ways they can talk to and listen to their characters so that your stories are populated with believable, dynamic, quirky folks (or creatures) with depth and complexity.
Ideas Really Do Grow on Trees: Figuring Out What to Write About: Even great writers get stumped sometimes, but with a few tricks up your sleeve, you’ll have more ideas than you can shake your pen at! With the help of an experienced author, you’ll explore a variety of strategies and resources for generating ideas for writing including questioning techniques, mash-ups, revisionist fairy tales, and current events.
