Lee Wardlaw claims her first spoken word was 'kitty'. Since then, she's shared her life with 30 cats (not all at the same time!) and published 30 award-winning books for children and young adults which have sold more than one million copies world-wide.

Lee grew up in Santa Barbara, CA where she attended local schools. She graduated with honors from Cal Poly State University, San Luis Obispo, with a degree in education, and taught elementary and pre-school for five years before deciding to write full-time. She received her AMI Primary Diploma from the Montessori Institute of San Diego, and is finishing her M.Ed. in Montessori/Child Development.
Lee has 30+ years experience presenting lively, interactive programs and classes for children, educators, and aspiring writers. She is a member of the SCBWI, and belongs to the Author’s Guild, California Reading Association, Children’s Literature Council of Southern California and, yes, even the Cat Writers’ Association! She still lives in Santa Barbara, CA, with her family, including two former shelter cats.

She is a vivacious speaker with 30+ years experience presenting at schools, libraries, conferences, and book stores. Lee has a genuine rapport with students of all ages, and her years as a classroom teacher has given her the expertise needed to change the complexity and style of her programs to best suit the needs of each audience.
