Lee Wardlaw claims her first spoken word was 'kitty'. Since then, she's shared her life with 30 cats (not all at the same time!) and published 30 award-winning books for children and young adults which have sold more than one million copies world-wide. Her books have been

Lee grew up in Santa Barbara, CA where she attended local schools. She graduated with honors from Cal Poly State University, San Luis Obispo, with a degree in education, and taught elementary and pre-school for five years before deciding to write full-time. She received her AMI Primary Diploma from the Montessori Institute of San Diego, and is finishing her M.Ed. in Montessori/Child Development.
Lee has 40+ years experience presenting lively, interactive programs, workshops, and classes for children, educators, parents, and aspiring writers. She is a long-time member of the SCBWI, serving as both a mentor and a volunteer on the Cen/Cal Advisory Board. She also belongs to the Author’s Guild, the California Reading Association, the Children’s Literature Council of Southern California and, yes, even the Cat Writers’ Association! She still lives in Santa Barbara, CA, with her family, which includes one dog-disdaining cat.
