I am a practicing writing teacher (Grades K - 12) and literacy specialist. I've published several teacher practitioner books on reading comprehension instruction and student motivation. I also write for children and have published several nonfictional adventure texts and numerous works of fiction, nonfiction, and series for the educational market. In addition to these interests, I also write comical middle-grade fiction, informational nonfiction, and narrative nonfiction. Outside of my own writing adventures, I champion my students' writing efforts and have met with some success in both avenues.

Presentation Description:

Multiple presentations are available for grades K - 12. Most Popular Programs feature my two nonfiction adventure books: "Tales From the Top of the World" and "Secrets of the Sky Caves" for upper levels (as noted) and an e-book "On the Back of a Yak," for lower levels (as noted).

Popular Programs Offered:

Which Adventure Would You Choose?

Slide presentation invites students to pick an adventure – and face the death-defying challenges of climbing the world’s highest mountain, Mt. Everest --  or -- accessing the remote sky caves in the crumbling cliffs of Mustang, Nepal. Students “wear the crampons” of world-renowned seven-time summiteer, Pete Athans, and the scientists and other climbers who journeyed on these adventures of discovery. (Grades 3 – 8) (Grades 9 - 12)

On the Back of a Yak

Young students learn of the marvelous sky-high libraries established in the remote mountain villages of Nepal. Called “The Magic Yeti Libraries,” these real-life magical places received bundles and bundles of books --  all delivered from around the world -- on the backs of yaks. (Grades PreK – 2)

Writing Workshop

Writing the “cliff-hanger” nonfictional adventure story -- crafting plot, structure, and detail to take readers on the adventure of a lifetime!  (Grades 2 – 8)

Author Classroom Luncheons

Play word games, share stories, and chime-along to songs and finger plays about Mt. Everest and the animals of Everest. (Grades PreK – 2)
