Bio:

I write picture books and play with clay in my attic studio. I wrote Poppy’s Best Paper and Poppy’s Best Babies, -illustrated by Rosalinde Bonnet, (Charlesbridge) and Eenie Meenie Halloweenie –illustrated by Lucy Fleming (Harper Collins-2020)

Every day I begin my job with clean hands. Within 15 minutes my hands are bright green, or purple, or whatever! and I am indulging in the sheer joy of playing with clay. My illustrations are all made with modeling clay, and photographed in my attic studio.
My clay-illustrated books include Papa Fish’s Lullaby by Patricia Hubbell, My Love for You is the Sun, by Julie Hedlund and my clay artwork appears regularly in Babybug, Ladybug, Click and Spider Magazines.

I'm the Regional Advisor for the Midsouth SCBWI and a member of the SCBWI Bologna Team. I was an Art Director for fifteen years, during which time I won some international 3D illustration awards and a Grammy nomination.

Poppy’s Best Paper was inspired by the
author’s own 4th grade paper. But rejections
rolled in when Poppy started life as a blue
