Volunteer Guidelines

The people who run your region are volunteers who are dedicated to the advancement of children's literature.  They work tirelessly to ensure that there is a full slate of events to suit the needs of all SCBWI members: authors, illustrators, those who are published and those not yet published. Regions remain strong because of these volunteers and members who volunteer to help with specific events. In addition to participating in events such as conferences or author/illustrator visits, you, as a member, may want to take on a more official role facilitating an event for other writers and illustrators or people in your community.

Before taking on an official volunteer role it is important to understand our guidelines:

— The Regional Advisor must approve all events that take place within the region under the SCBWI name.

— The Regional Advisor must be cc'd (unless he or she states otherwise) on any correspondence regarding events including contact with speakers and venues, event announcements, and evaluations.

— The Regional Advisor has the power to overrule any decision regarding SCBWI events and activities within his or her region.

— The Regional Advisor is the only person in the region authorized to speak on behalf of SCBWI.
