The Study of the Northwest Indiana Writing Project/ Summer Invitational Institute

Professional development programs that improve writing skills are in demand. Writing employees all levels of thinking. Standardize writing assessments validate the connection between critical thinking and writing ability. The National Writing Project is a professional development program designed to improve writing achievement. The Northwest Indiana Writing Project is a local site. This study examines the ways the methodology taught at the Institute; The transfer of methods to six participants classrooms; and the participants students writing achievement. The apparati are participants surveys, observations, interviews, and student writing assessments. The literature review traces his stork Lee writing education, attempting to find answers to questions related to gabs and achievement due to insufficient teaching strategies. The constructivist theory, in which the learner integrates new concepts into prior experiences, is also reviewed.
