Ultra-Secret: How an Ordinary Young Woman Helped End a War

When Japan attacks Pearl Harbor the day after Betty Bemis turns 19, she knows she can’t just sit on the sidelines while young men go to war. She joins the newly formed US Navy WAVES program and spends her war years building top-secret code-breaking machines, called Bombes. Unknown to Betty at the time, she was a critical part of the famous Project Ultra. The program was so secretive, Betty didn’t learn of her exact contributions for 50 years.
