Fresh on the heels of her second Governor General’s Award, comes Caroline Pignat’s latest YA novel, SHOOTER (Penguin, 2016). Told in the five voices of grade 12's trapped in a boy’s washroom during a high school lockdown, SHOOTER uses multiple modalities such as prose, poetry, photography, text messages, newspaper articles, and homework assignments. A high school teacher herself, Pignat made her characters do her Writer’s Craft assignments and includes several in the novel. As the clock counts down, these unlikely five learn truths about each other and about the boy who caused the lockdown.
