This children's science book tells the story of how Swiss engineer, Georges de Mestral, invented Velcro. The story is told through the eyes of both George and his dog. The book is written as a read aloud to young readers to support literacy for the grades 1 and 2 biomimicry units in the new science standards. The story follows George as he took an annoying problem and turned it into a solution that makes life easier for all of us. Velcro is an early example of what we have come to call biomimicry – using an idea from nature to design solutions to human problems.
