Rudolf and Ippai Attena

A little black cat, Rudolf, ends up in the back of a truck that takes him far from his home to the big city--Tokyo--where he an older cat--Ippai Attena-- takes him under his wing, teaching him survival tactics. Eventually he teaches him how to read and write, and how to sneak into the local school to borrow books. Rudolf finally figures where he came from and he and his friends hatch a scheme to send him back. The plan, however, is delayed when Ippai Attena has to be rescued from an evil bull dog. Rudolf uses a brilliant combination of his new skills to save the day. His trip home is left for another day. The fun part of the book is that it was supposedly written by Rudolf himself. The manuscript ended up on the porch of author Saito, who prettied it up and submitted it to Kodansha for publication.
