The Virtual Pre-Event Webinar is free to registrants of Illustrator Day. It will be available for a fee to those not planning on attending the in-person event.

Come join us in our Illustrators Day pre-event webinar on "Preparation and Tips for Making a Great Portfolio"! Learn from local published illustrators Isabella Kung and Diana Toledano as they share their expertise and insights via an informative presentation. Even if you are not able to join us on Illustrators Day, you can still sign up to join this exclusive virtual presentation!


Every registrant will also get to send in ONE illustration for a chance to be chosen by random for a LIVE critique from our awesome illustrators! So get your illustrations ready!

Note: This is optional. If you would like to submit an illustration, please check that box during registration and a link to submit will be available to you in your Member Home page, under the Events tab, look for this event and click Meeting Info. The optional illustration to submit will be due by Wednesday, August 9th.


There will be NO portfolio critiques at this event as they will all be held during our in-person Illustrators Day.

The tentative schedule for the webinar is as follows:

-20 mins presentation on what makes a great portfolio

-30 mins for live critiques (max of 10)

-10 mins for Q&A

Meet Our Presentation Panelists

Isabella Kung

Isabella Kung is the author and illustrator of NO FUZZBALL! (Scholastic, 2020), about a fuzzy feline Queen that was described as an “expressive, endearing little chunk of well-meaning evil” by Kirkus Reviews. The sequel NO SNOWBALL! (Scholastic, 2022) introduces an adorable interloper to the Queendom! Isabella also illustrated over 120 cats for the board books 123 CATS and ABC CATS (Candlewick, 2021). Her illustrations have received accolades from institutions such as the Society of Illustrators, Spectrum Fantasy Art, 3x3, Creative Quarterly, and SCBWI. Outside the world of publishing, Isabella teaches illustration and watercolor classes at Storyteller Academy and Etchr Lab. Isabella resides in San Francisco with her husband and two adorable – you guessed it – cats! She is represented by Jennifer Laughran at Andrea Brown Literary.

Diana Toledano

Diana Toledano is an illustrator, writer and educator. She is also a Pisces who loves books, patterns, and dancing her heart out. Originally from Spain, she now lives in California with her little bilingual family and two cats. Diana enjoys playing with different techniques to create detailed mixed media illustrations. She is fascinated by deep stories that offer every child a place of refuge and wonder. With a background in museum education, Diana loves doing school visits, teaching workshops for adults and speaking at conferences.
