Critique Carousel E&I Scholarship

SCBWI-MI is offering one scholarship to a writer or illustrator who identifies as a creator who comes from a community that has been historically marginalized in the publishing industry.

  • Applicants must be Premium SCBWI-MI members.
  • Applicants must not have won an E&I scholarship for the Critique Carousel in previous years.

The application period: September 1-12, 2026

The recipient of the scholarship will be chosen at random from all qualifying entries and will be contacted via email on or before September 13th. The scholarship must be accepted by the 15th or else another recipient will be selected.

The scholarship winner will be able to choose the agent or editor they would like a critique from.

**Please note: This scholarship is only for a critique from a Critique Carousel agent or editor. It does not guarantee representation or anything above the typical post-Critique Carousel submission opportunity.**

*We recognize all diverse experiences, including (but not limited to) LGBTQIA, Native, people of color, gender diversity, people with disabilities, and ethnic, cultural, and religious minorities. We subscribe to a broad definition of disability, which includes but is not limited to physical, sensory, cognitive, intellectual, or developmental disabilities, chronic conditions, and mental illnesses (this may also include addiction). Furthermore, we subscribe to a social model of disability, which presents disability as created by barriers in the social environment, due to lack of equal access, stereotyping, and other forms of marginalization (with thanks to We Need Diverse Books for the language used here).
