Learn how to adapt your existing picture books or middle grade with sensory items by creating inclusive reading and literacy experiences for readers with severe medical and/or cognitive disabilities.

Event Info

Join educator and former librarian, Courtney Walker, in this presentation where she will discuss her journey to publication, the why behind her work, and share how to modify existing titles to be part of an adaptive library. Courtney will discuss the best books with potential for an adapted book collection, tips for adapting, steps to create a sensory experience for readers. Members will learn how to create their own adapted book and will receive ideas on how to create more inclusive author visits, read alouds, and literacy experiences for people with severe medical and/or cognitive disabilities.
