Kim Norman has spoken to more than a quarter of a million students across the U.S., all of whom now know that dogs are her favorite pets. Aside from her adult nonfiction title, Sell Books and Get Paid Doing Author School Visits, Kim’s children’s books have been published by Penguin/RandomHouse, Macmillan, Candlewick, Scholastic, Union Square (formerly Sterling) and McSea. Last year her 25th book was published, a picture book about Maine animals, which she also illustrated.
Kim’s talk will be about fitting school visits into a busy life, including figuring out, for instance, how far we’re willing to travel, including that all-important consideration: how far the school is from the airport. (Lesson learned years ago in sprawling North Dakota!) She’ll also talk about the logistics of multi-day bookings — how they come about, who is responsible for making them happen. Additionally, she’ll mention how she handles book sales, since that can be a big part of the income aside from your fee for the visit.
