Come learn how agent Natascha Morris reverse engineers a story and has guided several debut graphic novelists through preparing their graphic novel proposals. From inspiration and MSWL, she will walk you through the outline steps to creating a new manuscript. Whether you are working on new idea or have no idea where to even start, this proven method will help you crack the code on how to give editors and agents exactly what they might be looking for. Handouts will be provided, and some pre-class work will be required.

What does making a graphic novel entail? Are you allowed to author-only a graphic novel? Let’s dive into the graphic novel boom and why you’d choose to make your novel a graphic novel. Join Eisner-Nominated author and illustrator Lily Williams as she discusses what makes a good graphic novel and why comics can sometimes be the best medium to tell a story.

The Graphic Novel Creative & Production Process: How It’s Different

In this workshop, literary agent Janna Morishima delves into the nitty gritty of graphic novel script-writing, illustration, and production. She’ll discuss how the production process differs from picture books and other illustrated books, and whether there are any advantages to the GN format. She’ll examine differences in format, complexity, and page count among graphic novels for different age ranges. Finally, she’ll discuss collaborations and timelines: how to write scripts with the artist in mind, how to foster good team communication, and what typical production schedules are like.

Creating a graphic novel can be a daunting process. You may start out strong, but keeping your stamina levels up, as well as your enthusiasm can be a constant challenge. In this beginners guide to creating a graphic novel for children, Chrissie Krebs will go through the dos and don’ts, how to pace yourself, as well as other survival tips from a personal journey to get you to the finish line.

For events costing more than $100, we offer full refunds (minus a $15 processing fee) up until 30 days before the event. We will offer a 50% refunds (minus a $15 processing fee) up until 7 days before the event. Less than 7 days from the event, events are non-refundable.
