Nicolás (Nico) Ore-Giron is an Assistant Editor at Roaring Brook Press (Macmillan), where he is building a list of young adult, middle grade, graphic novels, and picture books. Some of the titles he has worked on include Newbery Honor Book Eagle Drums by Nasuġraq Rainey Hopson and National Book Award Winner A First Time for Everything by Dan Santat. Nico loves s’mores, Gossip Girl, Paramore, and his dog, Pickle. He is from Tucson, AZ and lives in Brooklyn, NY.

A deep dive into comps and using them to successfully position your book within the marketplace. We will explore how different comps have the potential to change, hurt, or help positioning. And we will flex our creativity muscles by playing with and mixing unexpected comps. This is a workshop for those familiar and unfamiliar with comps—and for writers of all genres and formats!

What is a hook-y, marketable picture book concept? And how the heck do you create one? In this workshop, we will break down what a "high-concept" picture book is through analysis of the current market. Writers will also have an opportunity to workshop picture book concepts and be a part of open, collaborative discussion about how their hooks might contribute to marketability.
