I like to work at the intersection of art and impact. I’m the picture book lead, and work primarily on illustrated projects, both fiction and nonfiction. I’m interested in books featuring under-published topics and voices, difficult history or ideas told deftly, and themes like intersectionality, religious literacy, how infrastructure works, and social emotional learning. I love books that inspire feelings of insight, wonder, connectedness, and curiosity. I’m also looking for illustration that looks unlike anything else in the marketplace, and books that push the boundaries of bookmaking.
I love to work on books that challenge and excite readers, both in the world and on the page. I’m drawn to stories that are imaginative, humorous, heartfelt, bold, and visually distinctive. I’m mostly interested in art-forward picture books that spark curiosity and wonder, whether they are fiction or nonfiction. I’m also particularly committed to championing translated works from under-published languages and regions, in hopes of inspiring young readers and the adults in their life to look beyond the border.
I love to work on books that give life to their readers. For me, that means wholesome, funny, or emotional stories with a beating heart, with characters that I can call my best friends, in worlds that I can daydream about all day long. Along those lines, I’m most drawn to fiction for all ages (although I can be tempted by ecological/animal-themed nonfiction, too), and my aesthetic tastes lean towards the cuter side. I also remain committed to furthering our diversity movement in children’s literature.
