Join us in the park for a Critque-PAL-ooza! Recieve a critique from one of our award winning PAL members plus feedback from your group. Groups are intimate and space is limited so register early. Open to all (members and non-members)!

When: Saturday, April 27, 11:00am - 1:30pm

Where: Lafayette Reservoir - Large Picnic Site (more location details will be provided to registrants prior to the event)

Price: $25 (non-refundable)

Registration information

  • Registration closes April 25 at 6:00pm
  • When registering, you must select a genre: Picture Book, Middle Grade, or Young Adult.
  • If the PB genre sells out, you may email Nanette Heffernan to be put on the waitlist. A waitlist is only being offered for the PB genre at this time.

IMPORTANT ACCESSIBILITY NOTES: Before registering, please see these important notes about the event location:

  • This event is outdoors.
  • You will need to walk 1/4 mile on a paved trail to the picnic site, which involves one small hill.
  • Bathrooms are pit-toilets.
  • Parking is $7.

Nanette Heffernan

Nanette published her first PB with Charlesbridge Publishing in 2020--EARTH HOUR: A Lights-Out Event for Our Planet. She has volunteered as an SCBWI Critique Group Coordinator for many years and enjoys putting together events like Critique Speed Dating, PAL Critiquing, and Agent Critiquing.

Serena Gingold-Allen

Serena Gingold Allen is the author of the novelty board books Moonlight Prance and Sunrise Dance. Growing up near Yosemite, Serena spent her childhood reading, writing, and observing the natural world. She still spends a lot of time outdoors hiking and rock climbing with her husband and their two children.

Tony Piedra

Tony Piedra is an author/illustrator of picture books. His debut book, The Greatest Adventure, was published by Scholastic in 2018. Tony is now working with his creative partner and wife, Mackenzie Joy, on a creative nonfiction picture books series with Candlewick Press that explores the natural world.

Meera Sriram

Meera Sriram draws from her life straddling the East and West to tell stories for children. Her award-winning picture books have been featured in The New York Times and on several Best of The Year lists. Her most recent title, THE SPICE BOX, released in Spring 2024.

Teri Roche Drobnick

Teri’s debut picture book MOVING DAY will be published by Margaret Ferguson Books, Holiday House in 2025.​She is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker which influences many of her storylines such as LGBTQ, chronic illness, dementia and grieving. Teri lives in Petaluma with her husband and writing assistant, Hobie, the Goldendoodle.

Nicole Chen

Nicole Chen writes children’s books that reflect a diverse, multicultural American identity, and is the author of picture book HOW WE SAY I LOVE YOU (Knopf BFYR/PRH) and middle grade novels, IT’S BOBA TIME FOR PEARL LI! and LILY XIAO SPEAKS OUT (Quill Tree Books/HarperCollins)

Michael Leali

Michael Leali (he/him) is an award-winning writer. His debut novel, The Civil War of Amos Abernathy, won the Golden Kite Award in 2023. He is also the author of Matteo and the forthcoming The Truth About Triangles. Michael currently lives in the San Francisco Bay Area.

KEELY PARRACK is the author of Young Adult thrillers, DON'T LET IN THE COLD, 10 HOURS TO GO and picture books, HOW STARLING GOT HIS SPECKLES, MORNING, SUNSHINE! She currently lives in the San Francisco Bay area with her husband, and son.
