Creative Sole-proprietors in Canada’s Modern Tax World

This presentation will focus on Canadian tax matters and how they apply to sole proprietors in today’s ever expanding and complicated tax world. Topics will include when and how to report sales, royalty, and prize/grant income, types of expenses that can be deducted, common mistakes made on tax returns, planning for next year’s taxes, registering for a business number, when and how to charge sales tax (HST/GST/PST/QST), and what to do with income earned in other countries. Although the workshop should address most questions of interest to our writers, illustrators, and translators, registrants will have the opportunity to submit questions ahead of time.
