Learn the design principles behind Visual Storytelling and how YOU can use these to elevate your work. With examples from Chaaya’s own books, which have been published by the likes of Nosy Crow, Hachette and more, you will see how these principles work in practice, and be inspired and equipped to implement them in your own work using your own style and flair!

In this 60-minute webinar, Chaaya will explore how visual storytelling shapes the reading experience in picture books. She’ll share the creative process behind her work, introducing the design principles she uses—including visual hierarchy, contrast, balance, rhythm, repetition, scale, alignment, and white space—and explain how these influence character design, storyboarding, page turns, and colour choices.

Through examples from her own books, she’ll demonstrate how all these elements come together to create engaging visual narratives. The session will conclude with a 20-minute Q&A.
