YA First Pages

Description

Submit the opening of your YA novel for an opportunity to receive live feedback in this large group session. We regret that there may not be time to review all submissions, but will try to accommodate a variety of YA genres and as many samples as possible.

How to participate:

Free with registration--

Deadline:

  • Send your First Page to Kristen, epa-ara@scbwi.org, by 11:59 PM ET Friday, 9/13/24.
  • Please put “FPCS 2024_YA First Pages” in the subject line of your email.

What to send:

For ALL GENRES, please send ONE DOCUMENT with the following:

  • First Page of your work (250-word max OR, if submitting a GN sample, 2 1/2 spreads max )

How to format your submission:

⇒For all submissions, format your work in 12 point font, with one-inch margins, and double spacing (US Letter paper size).

⇒Please include title, category and genre on every page of your work as a header or a footer. NO NAMES or other identifying information please.

⇒Please SAVE YOUR FILE as a Word doc or PDF as follows: FPCS 2024_YA First Page_GENRE.

For example, if sending a YA Romance, you would save the document as follows: FPCS 2024_YA First Page_ROMANCE

Carolina Ortiz

Carolina Mancheno Ortiz is an editor at HarperCollins Children’s. She acquires middle grade, young adult, and graphic novels by creators that reflect the diverse world around us. She enjoys stories that center on unbreakable friendships, the bonds within families, the nuances of coming-of-age, and the highs and lows of newfound love. Her list includes Pritty by Keith F. Miller, Jr., ASAP by Axie Oh, Saving Chupie by Amparo Ortiz and Ronnie Vazquez, and The Last Beekeeper by Pablo Cartaya. Carolina is passionate about titles that speak to underrepresented experiences; historical fiction that turns one’s focus outward to the larger world; and genre fiction, from fantasy to horror, that explores the questions and experiences of today in a fresh and enticing ways.
