Preferred Pronouns: He/him

Agent: Rising Bear Literary Agency

Bio:

Rick Margolis worked for School Library Journal, the world’s largest reviewer of books for young readers, for nearly 15 years. As SLJ ’s executive editor, Rick had the pleasure of interviewing many remarkable children’s book authors and illustrators, including Kate DiCamillo, Mo Willems, Rebecca Stead, Gene Luen Yang, and Jon Klassen. And believe it or not, while Rick was at School Library Journal, he was able to predict the winner of the Caldecott Medal almost every year.

A little over ten years ago, Rick launched Rising Bear Literary Agency, specializing in what he most loves: picture books and fiction and nonfiction for middle-graders. He's excited to work with people who are passionate about creating exceptional books—and who are ready to change the world, one fabulous title at a time. Rick's clients include Printz Honor and two-time Newbery Honor–winner Gary D. Schmidt, Caldecott Honor recipient Daniel Minter, and Boston Globe-Horn Book Award–winner Kate Banks, as well as many other gifted kids’ book creators and promising newcomers.

What I'm Looking For:

We're looking for exceptional picture books and stories for middle graders—fiction and nonfiction—with memorable characters, great writing, and something to say to today’s kids. We’re not a good fit for educational materials or stories that are primarily message driven.
