About the Authors

Wendelin Van Draanen has written more than thirty novels for young readers and teens. She is the author of the 18-book Edgar-winning Sammy Keyes series—often called “The new Nancy Drew”—and wrote Flipped, which was named a Top 100 Children’s Novel for the 21st Century by School Library Journal and became a Warner Brothers feature film, with Rob Reiner directing.

A classroom teacher for fifteen years, Van Draanen resides in California where she can be spotted riding shopping carts across parking lots. She and her husband, Mark Parsons, have two sons and enjoy the three R’s: Reading, Running, and Rock’n’Roll.

Mark Parsons has written approximately two hundred articles for national publications as well as a pair of non-fiction books. His YA novel, ROAD RASH (Knopf/Random House) is a band-on-the-road novel which explores coming into adulthood and being responsible for one's decisions. It was named to the 2015 ALA/YALSA Best Fiction for Young Adults list, as well as Bank Street College’s Best Children’s Books of the Year list.

"COFFEE WITH THE AUTHORS"

Our goal is to give emerging writers useful information about the craft and business of writing. (There’s a lot of misinformation on the internet, propagated by people with zero or minimal success who are trying to make money off the aspirations of others, and honestly? It upsets us!)

Our channel is free and friendly, the idea being that the viewer can take a quick coffee break with us and gain some real-world insights into the craft and business of writing.

We’ll be posting a new episode every Wednesday. It’s still early days, but once we get some traction, we’ll also be fielding questions viewers leave in the comments, and hopefully begin conducting interviews.
