THEME, STAKES, and EMOTION: How to knit these craft skills together to earn your story’s ending and leave readers talking about your book long after the last page is closed. Suitable for novelists and picture book authors.

Kim Tomsic is an internationally published, award-winning author of picture books and middle grade novels. She is also an educator at UCLA Extensions, a volunteer with SCBWI, and the founder of the Ink & Agave Writing Retreat. Her books for kindergarten-6th-grade readers will make you laugh, cry, or both. Her most recent title, The Truth About 5th Grade (HarperCollins), co-written by Kim and award-winning cartoonist Mark Parisi, was a Sid Fleischman Finalist for humor. Her nonfiction picture book published by Chronicle Books, The Elephants Come Home (cue handkerchief), illustrated by Hadley Hooper, received the Norman A. Sugarman Honor, the Comstock-Gág Book Award, the California Young Readers Medal, the Keystone to Reading Award, and other accolades.
