I Will View My Manuscripts Through the Eyes of an Agent Creating a manuscript that will stand out in an agent’s inbox today is no easy task. In this session, Literary Manager Lindsey Aduskevich will provide you with both tips and a checklist that will help you evaluate your manuscripts through the eyes of an agent. We’ll cover lots of important topics, such as: · Why the manuscript you put your heart and soul into is being passed on by agents. · What they need to see in a story to consider acquiring it. · How to amp up humor to make readers laugh instead of just smile. · How to amp up the heart to make readers shed a tear. · Are there enough hooks and layers in a story? Is there room to add more? · Are the stakes clear enough and does the tension escalate? · And most importantly…how does a story stand out on an agent’s inbox? Lindsey Aduskevich is a Literary Manager at Martin Literary & Media Management. She’s excited to build her list with passionate, kind, and hard-working authors. As an avid reader, she is open to a wide variety of genres, including picture books, middle grade, young adult, and new adult. After graduating with a B.A. in English from the University of Connecticut, where she developed a love for books that inspire empathy and foster a deeper understanding of the world in which we live, Lindsey became determined to carve a career in the publishing industry. She interned with Senior Literary Manager Kristen Terrette before starting her career as an agent. As an agented kidlit writer herself, Lindsey is familiar with the ups and downs of the query trenches and submission process and hopes to emulate the same compassion and quick communication she found in several agents who helped guide her own writing journey. Residing in Southington, CT with her husband and two girls, Lindsey enjoys borrowing unusually tall stacks of picture books from the local library, snakeboarding in the basement with her family, hiking in the summer, skiing in the winter, and celebrating all the “wins” with her favorite critique partners.
