What Is It?
Submit the opening of your MG/YA manuscript (Novels in Verse welcome) or GN manuscript/sample for an opportunity to hear how your project compares and contrasts to what our faculty has on their MSWL, and what they are seeing in their inbox and in the market. We regret that there may not be time to review all submissions, but will try to accommodate a variety of genres and formats and as many samples as possible.
How Do I Participate?

Deadline:
- Send your MG/YA/NIV/GN manuscript first page (max 250 words) or illustrated GN opening (max 2.5 spreads) to Kristen, [email protected], by 11:59 PM ET Friday, 9/11/26.
- Please put “MGYASlush26_(Faculty last Name)_GENRE_CATEGORY” in the subject line of your email.
What to send:
For ALL GENRES, please send ONE DOCUMENT with the following:
- First Page of your work (250-word max OR, if submitting an illustrated sample, 2 1/2 spreads max )
How to format your submission:
⇒For all submissions, format your work in 12 point font, with one-inch margins, and double spacing (US Letter paper size).
⇒Please include title, category and genre on every page of your work as a header or a footer. NO NAMES or other identifying information please.
⇒The following formatting exceptions may be used for Novels in Verse (NIV) submissions only:
- You may format your NIV manuscript using either 1.15, 1.5, or double spacing. This spacing choice should be used standard throughout the manuscript sample.
- You may only vary from your standard spacing choice when needed for the visual presentation of a particular poem.
- You may only use a font size other than 12-point when needed for the visual presentation of a particular poem.
