SCBWI Italy - First Pages Workshop

Jun 29, 2026

Online event

Part 1: Workshop session led by Julie Blaho. Whether you're writing a PB or novel, the first page is so important. You only have a few minutes to convince an agent or reader that your MS is worth their time. Bring whatever you're working on and learn how to capture readers' curiosity in this hands-on workshop. A recording will be available. Part 2: Get your work in front of an agent and receive valuable feedback! The opportunity to submit a manuscript for feedback is exclusive to Premium Members. Submit a first page (PB, MG, or YA) by July 6th. Gaby Cabezut at The Seymour Agency will then provide feedback on selected manuscripts during a recorded Zoom session, which will be sent out to all registered participants.

What people have said about previous workshops:

Julie Blaho's workshop on Narrative Structure was filled with information to help you think about your story from the start. The four steps she provides are strategic and fast to apply, and the wonderful examples she shares help you see how to craft your story arc. I highly recommend this workshop to anyone who has the chance to learn from Julie.

Having the opportunity to learn this craft better was exactly why I joined SCBWI. This workshop was excellent. Now I have a very useful tool for writing and revising my work.

Julie's workshop was hugely helpful for me in thinking about my story as a whole; clarifying what it was I wanted to communicate and how best to convey that whilst also engaging the reader. The workshop helped me with both overall structure and character consistency. Thank you, it's an effective and very interesting viewpoint on narrative stories.
