You’ve Sold Your First Manuscript . . . Now What?
When author Lori Degman sold her first picture book manuscript, she thought things would magically fall into place and her book would sell like hot cakes (why do hot cakes sell so well?). Well, that’s not exactly what happened. In this session, Lori will share what she’s learned (sometimes the hard way); things like: working with editors and agents, book launches, school visits, swag, websites, future sales, royalties, and reviews – to name a few. She’ll also share the things her writer and illustrator friends have learned when they first published!
Lori Degman is the award-winning author of seven picture books: Travel Guide for Monsters (illus. by Dave Szalay) and Travel Guide for Monsters Part Deux: A Canadian Adventure (co-written with Jocelyn Watkinson and illus. by Marcus Cutler); Like a Girl (illus. by Mara Penny); Just Read (illus. by Victoria Tentler-Krylov); Norbert’s Big Dream (illus. by Marco Bucci); Cock-a-Doodle Oops! (illus. by Deborah Zemke) and 1 Zany Zoo (illus. by Colin Jack). Lori was a teacher of the deaf and now writes full-time. She loves doing school visits and presenting at writing conferences and book festivals. She lives in a suburb of Chicago but had a strong connection to Austin - her son, daughter-in-law and grandson live there.
The meeting starts at 10am. However, if you can not make it in person due to distance or health, we will do our best to stream it live on Zoom. Please register to get the zoom link in your My Events section of your SCBWI account. This meeting is open (and free!) to both paid Members and Registered Users. If you have questions during the presentation, please put them in the Zoom chat. By registering and/or attending our event, you agree to abide by the SCBWI Anti-harassment policy.
