The NJ SCBWI Team invites you to join us on Sunday March 23rd, 2025 for a Virtual Critique Day! While registration is free, when you choose your critique you'll be charged $120. On Sunday, March 23rd, 2025 from 1:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. NJ SCBWI will host a virtual critique day.
What: 15-minute one-on-one critiques with the editor, agent, or book designer of your choice on a first come, first served basis. You'll also receive written feedback and an exclusive submission opportunity to all participating faculty. Open to SCBWI members only.

JULIE BLIVEN ( SENIOR EDITOR, CHARLESBRIDGE)
Julie Bliven has been an editor at Charlesbridge for more than a decade. She acquires and edits fiction and nonfiction board books, picture books, and middle-grade novels. Julie holds an M.A. in Children’s Literature from Simmons University, where she has taught and mentored students in the University’s M.F.A. program. She has also served as a member of the Children’s Book Council Diversity Initiative. When Julie’s not working with Charlesbridge’s talented creators, or spending time with family and friends, she writes. MIKAELA LUKE (EDITORIAL ASSISTANT, STONEFRUIT STUDIO, SOURCEBOOKS)
Mikaela Luke is a Taiwanese Canadian children’s book reviewer, scholar, and editor with a Master of Arts in children’s literature. Mikaela is an editorial assistant at Stonefruit Studio where she works on a range of picture books to young adult novels. Stonefruit Studio, is Sourcebooks new children's imprint with editorial directors Ben Rosenthal and Mabel Hsu. Stonefruit plans to publish 16-24 titles a year, across all age categories and formats, with the first list appearing in summer 2026.
DEEBA ZARGARPUR (SENIOR EDITOR, SIMON & SCHUSTER)
Deeba Zargarpur is a senior editor at Simon & Schuster Books for Young Readers and Salaam Reads. Her aim is to acquire commercial books that empower young people from diverse backgrounds. She is always on the hunt for stories that inspire a sense of magic and wonder, plot lines that challenge traditional assumptions about morality, and strong character arcs that redefine what it means to be the hero of your own story. Michaela Whatnall is an agent with Dystel, Goderich & Bourret, where they have worked out of the West Coast office since 2019. They have a degree in English and linguistics from Emory University, completed the Columbia Publishing Course, and in 2023 they were selected as Publishers Weekly Star Watch Honoree.
